Limits of the Body
If you could shut down that little voice in your head that tells you you’re tired, how far could you go? What, if any, are the limits to the human body? There’s a race called RAAM (Race Across America) that serves a kind of test ground to this question, as its competitors must ride their bicycles across the entire country, as fast as they can, essentially without stopping (winners have done it in under 8 days). This piece profiles two riders, Jure Robic and Patrick Autissier, who discuss how they do what they do and what it feels like to touch, truly touch, a limit. (I strongly recommend listening to the science section that comes just prior to this piece), but my piece begins at 15:50.
Story starts at approx: 15:50
